Hola!
I'm Blanca.
You are meant to have an optimal life, one that's happy, successful, abundant and of great contribution. My mission is to help you achieve that.
This week I closed 30% of my annual sales goal and January hasn’t even finished. This is a huge success for me. One that I haven’t experienced in 10 years of independent business. I’ve been reflecting on it. What made it possible?
I can already anticipate to you that the answer to this question is relevant not only for business owners but also for employees. In fact, it’s relevant for your entire life.
I’ve invested a lot of money, effort and time in my education. I studied an International MBA at an excellent business school. There I learned that you needed to think a lot before going into business. If you wanted to be in business you needed to write a business plan. So I went I wrote one for the first venture I created. This very sound exercise didn’t allow me to see the fundamental flaws in our business construction: the interests and visions of all the partners were different. Needless to say, that ventured collapsed.
That failure was so painful to me that I sought refuge in the corporate world. After 5 years of hiding there, I dared to go into the scary world of entrepreneurship again. This time I decided to do it alone. I didn’t want the partner problems I had before. I chose not to write a business plan. I decided to build upon the do and reflect cycle. I decided to look for advice from successful entrepreneurs.
I’ve been 10 years in business. That’s a success in itself. I must have learned something from the business school and from my successful coaches. However, it’s just until now that I see my business taking off.
What is the difference? What did I do differently?
About a year ago I looked back. I reviewed my business story. What gave me the most joy? When did I have the most impact? Invariably when these two variables were present (happiness and service) I made the most money.
So I started making phone calls asking for appointments with people with somehow the same profile of my favorite customers. Bear in mind that, many of these calls were cold calls. I simply shared with all these strangers the story of my life: child of perfectionist parents, trying to prove herself, becoming incredibly unhappy, learning the lessons and now sharing those lessons with other fellow perfectionists. I just openly said: “I want to serve with my story; what can I do for you?” 100% of those strangers became customers.
Have you ever heard about 100% sales conversion! Yes, it exists. This is the recipe: be honest with yourself, be honest with them.
Apparently, I had a positive impact in many of them, because the additional 20% sales come from referrals. Apparently, these new referring customers were well served.
So what is the recipe of 120% Sales Conversion? Give yourself permission to do what your heart calls you to do.
You see, all these came, because I finally gave myself permission of doing business the way I want to and to concentrate on what makes me happy. I let go of copying all that other successful entrepreneurs are doing. I let go of doing all that my teachers told me.
Don’t take me wrong. I don’t preach against education. I am tremendously grateful to all my MBA lecturers, all my business mentors, and coaches. I learned so much from them. However, all their advice had no power or impact in my business, because it was not filtered by my heart. Forcing myself to blindly follow their advice was a recipe for disaster.
Now I judge the real value of all these techniques and methods with new parameters. I don’t question if they make sense (they do), I question if they make me happy and if they are aligned to my purpose. So now I cherry-pick from all what I’ve learned what applies to me. I can tell you, a lot of it doesn’t. In other words, this has created a simpler business. I’ve been eliminating and I continue to eliminate more and more not truly joyful and purposeful to-dos.
So, do learn, read, get coached and more. However do not switch off your most important dials: your joy and your purpose. Don’t wait until the end of December to check if what you meets these criteria. Do it today. Is the work that you are doing providing you joy? Is the work that you are doing aligned with your life purpose?
If the answer is no, start taking actions towards joyful and purposeful work. Look for projects that could provide you both. Your entire reality will start changing. You will stop being a victim of “what makes sense” and makes you so miserable. Suddenly being happy and of service will start making sense. Suddenly being happy and of service will provide you so much wealth: money, personal satisfaction, gifts, etc. Suddenly you will get all that you wanted and more.
