Stop listening to the experts

Every single revolution in history has been brought to life by ONLY 5% of the population.

Our economy and our society are on the verge of profound transformation. We hear of more and more companies having massive (and also quiet) layoffs. We see the bankruptcy of entire economies. We see more and more reality of what doesn't work in our economy and business world in general.

At the same time we see emerging inspiring companies like Remotion (electric cars) or www.stopthewaterwhileusingme.com, reinventing branding. We see emerging inspiring agents of change, like the ones I like to honor to introduce you in our "Meet the Change Agent Series". We see emerging global egalitarian initiatives, like Room to Read. Also thought builders like http://www.neemontslag.nl/.

Wonders are breaking out from all that is breaking down.

Now, we can say that the static, hierarchical and class based society, with accepted norms and values, is crumbling before our very eyes. Now, our global society is a dynamic, fragmented, networked society. Before, money or power bought you the loyalty of employees and customers. Now, they expect much more than that. The individual has the power to transform that part of the world that she or he is passionate about by engaging others and letting them be the change they all want. Now YOU have the power to transform the world!

The old business paradigms are seductive because of their perceived certainty and security. A new economy and a new society implies to accept the certainty of uncertainty. In order to do so, we need to step out of the command and control leadership model. We cannot longer seek shelter in the fantasy of the leader who has all the answers, who promises success in exchange of "followership".

In this age of creativity and initiative, we must embrace a model of leadership that is loose, open and perpetually innovative. To be a leader today is to lead free agents, to lead CEO's of the Me. Inc. to be a leader today, you need to be indeed the CEO of Me. Inc.

This is extremely challenging. This implies to stop listening to naysayers, the so called experts/gurus. This implies to start listening to our wisdom and choose what is right, not what is convenient or what used to be the best way forward. We're indeed in a business revolution. In this business revolution we will not have one single leader who will mark the way for us to follow. Our guide is inside us: our own knowing has already the perfect business model, the most harmonious offer, the most honest and compelling marketing message. Listen within and you will find the most effective, human and humane solution for your business, for your customers and for you.

Stop reading the main stream media
Switch off the television or even better get rid of it
Surround yourself with positive, creative and uplifting people
Laugh, dance, dream, envision
and
most importantly take action!

How to stand out from the crowd in the New Economy

Owning what I am born to do has transformed my entire life and turned around my business. This is the way I doubled the size of my business in less than half a year! This was no accident! Serving those customers that make my heart sing allows me to help them better, because I am not only putting my business sense at their service, but also all my passion and all my soul. AND I assure you that makes a huge difference for everyone!

Fly beyond any limitation

I guess there are no coincidences. This past week the common theme of my customers, potential customers and even friends has been very consistent. Everyone seems to be very concerned about all the reasons why what they want is not possible.

An extremely intelligent female customer (her list of academic and professional  achievements is so impressive for her young age: 27!) told me all the reasons why it is impossible to have her dream job: she's too young, in the country where she lives there are no companies that do that, the companies that do that would hire her as a junior, changing job will imply earning less, her education and experience are not enough...

Another customer of mine is consumed by the messages of the media: there is not enough money, crisis, crisis, crisis, crisis! She finds evidence of that in her life everywhere: her customers don't pay, she doesn't attract new customers, she gives more and more for free...

Wisdom on a napkin

I found this poem on the napkin of my favorite lunch restaurant. Enjoy!

We know the sap which
courses through the
trees as we know the blood
that courses through our veins.
We are part of the earth
ant it is part of us.

The perfumed flowers
are our sisters. The bear,
the dear, the great eagle,
these are our brothers.
The rocky crest, the
dew in the meadow, the body
heat of the pony, and
man all belong to the same family...

Own your heroic self NOW!

Last month was a slow month for me, as my health was a bit delicate. During my forced rest, I watched an infinite number of historical movies: Second World War movies, Mexican Independence and Revolution movies, survival of the Andes movies/documentaries... Plus read a couple of books: Spanish Civil War and the Sacred Book of the Mayans.

Each one of them really moved me. In each one I found great inspiration to feed my personal mission (to heal the fear of the builders of the upcoming Heart Centred Economy). At the beginning, the combination of material appeared quite random. Slowly a pattern was starting to emerge. I realized that I've been exploring the figure of the hero. I got multiple answers to the inspiring questions: what makes a hero? What makes him/her emerge and what makes him/her keep going against all odds? What can we learn from all those (famous and unknown) heroes?

How to find courage in our convoluted business environment?

The number one issue every single one of my customers came up with this month was: lack of Self-Confidence. Everyone labeled their feeling that way! It showed up in different ways in their lives. Some of their phrases were,

  • I keep asking myself if I am ready for this (corporate/business change)
  • Do I have the courage to do it?
  • I am not ready!
  • I need to show the organization that I know what is all about

Last month clients are 80% men and 20% women. All of them are high fliers between 38 and 52! Every one of them is running important parts of their companies: owners, directors of big names, consultants... They are by no means weak nor incapable. They are just like you!

Are you still in the castle? Quit!

The old adagio that our parents followed as a religion doesn’t apply to our reality anymore: if you work hard, follow the rules, go to university, you will be successful. For generations it was expected that the next generation would overpass in level of success the previous generation. For generations it was believed that life is a straight line of progress.

Now more than ever we see that that rule doesn’t apply. Now more than ever we see that radical innovation was made by people who dropped out from high school: Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Einstein, to name few. Now university degrees do not secure financial success. While you see unemployed university title holders, you also see title-less millionaires.

Overwhelmed? Let Source do the driving

It is ok not to know, take inspired action NOW

The New Year parties are already far away in my memories. The fireworks, the champagne, the grapes, the bells are forgotten. The same is starting to happen to our new year's resolutions.

Our to-do list is growing and growing. I see overwhelm growing left, right and center.  It is very easy to lose the north in our path. It is very easy to forget what we stand up for. It is very easy to forget how our actions contribute to our life purpose (or not.)

When you feel things are getting out of hand. When you're starting to get irritable. When you're not laughing. When you see everything as VERY serious, VERY heavy, VERY important. STOP!

A brand new game

Your very own 10 commandments

This is the season of wishing the best to each other. This is the season of giving. This is the season of reflection. This is the season of receiving a lot of advice for the future. This is the season of family. This is the season of contradictions: from buying unnecessary things to gathering gifts for children in developing countries. This is the season of endless parties, alcohol and prayer. This season is full of everything: excesses and bright spiritual light.

Transform your fear into fuel

Have you been hearing your Inner Critic shout at you? Lately mine has gotten out of hand: you are not fast enough, look what everyone is doing, you're not good enough... The worst thing is that at the same time my Inner Victim is taking all those statements as the only reality.

Yesterday, I couldn't take it anymore.

Brotherhood

My father was an orphan. He spent his childhood and early youth in public boarding schools / orphanages.

When I was 10 years old, his achievements were present everywhere: university degree, a happy young family and his very own successful construction company. He was not the only successful one. Many of his "brothers", school classmates, were politicians, lawyers, accountants, etc.

Believe

My inner guidance said: Believe

That was my wake up message. I figured I'd rather trust it. All morning I experienced how life should be for a super hero. Everything was arranged and orchestrated for me.

You cannot get it wrong!

I take painting lessons every Monday.  I always wanted to take painting lessons and finally I'm doing so. I'm taking the introductory course to intuitive painting. You learn how to hold your brush, how to mix colors... In general, you learn how the techniques work.

What you cannot afford not to do before you die

I haven’t been able to write. It might be writers block. It might be that I caged myself in the analysis-paralysis cycle. I’ve been asking myself who I am meant to serve. I’ve been having a profound revisiting of my own life purpose. You might be wondering: Why is this relevant to me? Why is Blanca discussing this in her blog? Well, I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in synchronicity. Possibly, I am meant to serve you. Possibly, my journey might inspire you.

It’s only too late, when you are dead

When my mother was 18, my grandma sent her to the Pedagogy Institute. After some years, she became a teacher. She was never asked what she wanted to study or what her mission was in life, or what her dream was. You know, my mom was born in 1917. When she was taken to the Pedagogy Institute, negotiation about your desires and your calling was unheard of.

Your path is patiently waiting for you!

Start listening, wondering will decrease, centeredness will arrive.

Years ago I wanted to write a book. I had the whole layout already planned. I had the title of all the chapters and the entire concept ready to go. I showed the plan to a trusted friend of mine. She kindly recommended me to consider reading several books before even attempting to go ahead. Her good intentions were a show stopper for me. I felt my plan was no good enough and moreover, I felt I was not good enough. Five years and many books later, I finally wrote my own book.

Leadership is a sensemaking game

The crises that we now experience are challenging the way we have been doing business for decades. The people and the technology are radically different than half a century ago; than 2 decades ago. Our new business environment is more uncertain and faster than ever. We need to widen our understanding if we are to survive these challenges. “Business as usual” solutions are no longer applicable. Continuing to ask the same questions will not improve our understanding.

Posted: 2009-08-26

Procrastination might be your wisdom speaking

In these uncertain times, our challenge is no longer to move faster. The real challenge is to move wisely. Whoever thinks that incessant action would translate into money, success (whatever your definition is), health and happiness is running the risk of being tremendously disappointed.

Embracing fear is the key to invincibility

A couple of years ago, I almost lost everything. I lost my job and my home. My relationship ended. With that I lost “my” car, “my” status, “my” power, “my” source of money, “my” source of love and appreciation. I was as empty as someone can be. It was a very dark and painful period. But… it was so dark and so painful that it didn’t hurt at all! From there, the only way was up. The “little” I had left became so important, and so relevant and valuable. I had nothing to lose!

Crawl your way to success

Consistent imperfect action is the key to your dream life

There are million reasons why we don’t get to follow our dreams. There are million reasons why we don’t allow ourselves to create what we really want to. We see barriers everywhere: the mortgage, our family expectations, our peers’ expectations, our age, lack of time, our gender… The list is infinite.

There is a powerful antidote that dissolves all these barriers. This is called Consistent Imperfect Action. Consistent imperfect action is very similar to crawling. Every baby on the planet learns to walk by trial and error. Every step is imperfect. Every step is in fact an adventure. Babies don’t get hanged up on how many times it didn’t work to stand up. They just try again and again and again and again and again!

My top 7 natural highs

It’s very very easy to get dragged down by the grim headlines. There is so much to fuzz about!

It is so easy to forget that our natural state of being is being joyful and healthy. We have always available something that could bring us back to our natural good feeling place, to our natural state of health.

Being an advocate of positive and healthy life requires some tools to be able to get me back on track. I would like to share with you today my top 3 favourite natural highs. They are the actions that much faster bring me peace, strength and a big smile in my heart. They are my favourite ones, simply because they work. They really do!

How to survive the “Mid-Year Crisis”

July is a wake up call to make the rest of the year your best season yet.

Have you noticed how people, when they become 40 or 50, enter into a reassessment of their lives? It is what they call the “mid-life crisis”. I’ve noticed that the same happens to me when the 1st of July hits the calendar. I see that the first half of the year is gone and that now I need to start running the extra mile. I remember the intentions I set at the beginning of the year. 1st of July is a wake up call to focus my attention on my goals and choose wisely my actions.
